For its third temporary exhibition, the Al Thani Collection at the Hôtel de la Marine welcomes a group of exceptional loans from the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro in Venice, which is currently being restored.
"Ca' d'Oro, Masterpieces of the Renaissance in Venice" brings together a selection of more than 70 works by the greatest artists of the Venetian Renaissance : medals by Pisanello and Gentile Bellini, paintings by Tintoretto, Paris Bordon and Titian, sculptures by Tullio Lombardo, Jacopo Sansovino, Andrea Riccio and Alessandro Vittoria. For the first time in more than a century, Andrea Mantegna's Saint Sebastian, the heart of the museum's collection and the artist's ultimate masterpiece, has left its setting on the banks of the Grand Canal to move to the Place de la Concorde for a few months.
A jewel of late Gothic architecture, the Ca' d'Oro is one of the most admired palaces in Venice, famous for its elegant facade and the splendor of its decoration. Since 1927, the building has been home to a national museum, the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti, whose prestigious collections, donated by Baron Giorgio Franchetti (1865-1922) and enriched by the Italian State, tell the story of the fascinating and multifaceted history of Venice, with a particular focus on the Renaissance.
