A concert for the eyes - ocular harpsichord
Thursday 3 April 2025 at 8pm
Can we see music? Can we hear colours? These were the questions explored in the 18th century by Father Castel, inventor of the ocular harpsichord.
In the exceptional setting of the Cour de l'Intendant, harpsichordist Alessio Zanfardino and actor Nicolas Vaude will present for the first time a musical and theatrical performance written as a tribute to the scientific, aesthetic and philosophical research of this singular man, who dreamt of "music for the eyes". A kind of ideal instrument of the Enlightenment, halfway between dream and reality, his ocular harpsichord was of particular interest to Rameau, Diderot and Voltaire.
